Indian Railways sets Net Zero target of 2030Al-Dbaiba commends the courage of the Deterrence Force and the security services in arresting the leader of ISIS, Hashem Bousidra.

ABU DHABI: Indian Railways has rolled out a mission to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030.

India’s Cabinet was yesterday apprised of various steps being taken towards reaching this goal, the government’s Press Information Bureau said in an announcement.

This achievement will help Indian Railways to reduce dependence on coal imports and increase deployment of renewable energy.

‘Renewable energy plants will give a fillip to technology in this sector in India. This will help in the development of local ecosystems which will subsequently give a boost to local product development,’ the announcement said.

Among the steps towards Net Zero is a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and United States Agency for International Development, which will provide a platform for Indian Railways to interact with and share the latest developments and knowledge in the railway sector.

‘The MoU facilitates utility modernization, advanced energy solutions and systems, regional energy and market integration. It
also provides for private sector participation and engagement in areas such as energy efficiency and for knowledge sharing,’ the Cabinet was informed.

Indian Railways is the fourth largest national railway system in the world by size with a track length of 128,305 km as of last year, according to the government-owned system.
