Iraqi Foreign Ministry announces the reopening of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya.Seminar on seismic risks in Dhamar

Tripoli: The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the reopening of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya yesterday and appointed Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahaf as the Head of the Iraqi Mission in Libya.

The Ministry said on its Facebook page that this step comes in the context of activating terms of the government program and under the guidance of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein on the need to provide services to the Iraqi community in Libya and the embassy’s role in overcoming all obstacles they face.

“We will work to develop our bilateral relations and coordinate the exchange of high-level visits between Baghdad and Tripoli in the coming period,’ Al-Sahaf said during the opening ceremony.

‘Reopening the embassy in Libya is to do its role in activating the political and diplomatic work in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly countries as well as providing consular services for the Iraqi community in Libya,’ he added.

Al-Sahaf stressed Iraq’s support for the internationa
l efforts to restore security and stability in Libya and to adopt the political choice that achieves the aspirations of the Libyan people.

The ministry stated that the reopening of the embassy comes after a decade as a result of the developments witnessed by Libya.

The Center for Monitoring and Study of Earthquakes and Volcanoes in Dhamar Governorate organized a scientific symposium on seismic risks in Yemen, the effects left by the 1982 Dhamar earthquake, the current status of the Center for Monitoring and Study of Earthquakes and Volcanoes, and the damage it sustained as a result of the aggression.

At the opening of the scientific symposium, which was held to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the Dhamar earthquake in 1982, the Undersecretary of Dhamar Governorate stressed the importance of joining efforts to restart the center for monitoring and studying earthquakes and volcanoes.

He pointed out that the center was preparing studies and issuing bulletins related to seismic and volcanic activities in Yemen, before it was targeted by the aggression in May 2015.
