Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group President Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser met today at IsDB headquarters in Jeddah with United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary Ibrahim Thiaw. During the meeting, officials reviewed ways to enhance cooperation ahead of the 16th UNCCD session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) scheduled to be in Riyadh from December 2 to 13. The Riyadh COP16 Conference is the largest meeting of the Convention's 197 countries and the first of its kind to be held in the Middle East region. It is also the largest multilateral conference ever hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2024, which marks the 30th anniversary of the UNCCD, one of the three major environmental treaties known as the Rio Conventions, along with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
