Osaka: The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has unveiled its strategic plan for the forthcoming Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, scheduled to take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025. The event, themed ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’, will be held on Osaka’s Yumeshima island.
According to Emirates News Agency, Arai Yohei, Deputy Director of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, announced that more than 161 countries and nine international organizations are expected to participate in the event, which anticipates over 28 million visitors. During his visit to Expo City Dubai, Yohei emphasized the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai’s focus on tackling global challenges with sub-themes such as ‘Saving Lives,’ ‘Empowering Lives,’ and ‘Connecting Lives.’
Yohei highlighted the significance of the United Arab Emirates to Japan, noting the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. He stated that the Expo Osaka-Kansai 2025 project aims to carry forward the mission of addressing glob
al environmental challenges, inspired by the successful Expo 2020 in Dubai. He also revealed that the UAE pavilion will be situated in the ‘Empowering Lives Zone,’ near the Japanese pavilion, and will be classified as a Category A pavilion, indicating its large scale.
The UAE pavilion will reflect Emirati heritage, featuring elements such as palm fronds and integrating Japanese wood construction expertise. The pavilion will spotlight the UAE’s initiatives in space exploration, research, development, and sustainable technologies, contributing to innovative solutions through collaboration.
Yohei also elaborated on the Expo 2025 venue’s final design, highlighting the Grand Ring’s wooden structure, a significant symbol of the event. The structure, one of the largest wooden constructions globally, uses 27,000 cubic meters of wood, stands twenty meters high, and spans a circumference of two kilometers, welcoming visitors worldwide.
During his visit, Yohei praised UAE’s efforts in research, development, and susta
inability. Additionally, Expo City Dubai’s welcoming of ‘Miyako Miyako’, the official mascot of Expo Osaka Kansai 2025, demonstrated the cooperative spirit between the two Expo host cities.
Regarding the infrastructure development for Expo City Osaka, Yohei noted the historical significance of hosting the Expo on Osaka’s Yumeshima island. He explained that this opportunity allowed the Japanese government to develop facilities and infrastructure connecting the island via a new metro station, akin to Expo Dubai’s metro, with tourist attractions, hotels, and smart transportation to be unveiled soon.
Expo City Dubai celebrated the arrival of Miyako Miyako at Al Wasl Plaza on Thursday, where Expo City mascots Rashid, Latifa, and Opti presented the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) flag, symbolizing friendship and cooperation between the two World Expo host cities.
