Baghdad – Jordan announced today, Saturday, that its total imports of Iraqi oil during the period from September 2021 to last December amounted to 3.65 million barrels, equivalent to 490 thousand tons of crude.

The Director of Oil and Gas at the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Iman Awwad, stated: “Jordan imports Iraqi crude oil according to a memorandum of understanding signed between the Jordanian and Iraqi governments, in effect since the beginning of September 2021.”

According to the memorandum of understanding, Jordan buys Iraqi crude oil to meet part of its annual oil needs at a rate of 10,000 barrels per day based on the average monthly price of Brent crude minus $16 per barrel to cover the quality difference and transportation fees.

According to the memorandum, the Jordanian authorities are obligated to provide basin tanks to transport oil from Iraq to the Jordanian oil refinery in Zarqa, and the tanks are distributed equally between Jordanian and Iraqi companies.
