Abu Dhabi:Jordan's Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, has emphasized the United Arab Emirates' significant contribution to the digital transformation of Jordan's healthcare sector. He commended the UAE's ongoing support in enhancing digital infrastructure and advancing medical services.
According to Emirates News Agency, Smeirat spoke at the Future Health Summit 2026, highlighting the critical role of digital transformation in boosting healthcare efficiency, expanding access to specialized services, and enabling medical professionals to deliver faster and more accurate care.
Smeirat noted that Jordan has made considerable strides through its Digital Health Centre, also known as a virtual hospital. This initiative connects 12 government and peripheral hospitals to provide remote specialized medical services to rural and remote areas, offering medical consultations, diagnostic imaging, and intensive care.
The deployment of remote intensive care and patient monitoring services has facilitated quicker medical interventions, improved treatment outcomes, and enhanced the responsiveness of healthcare professionals to urgent cases. Smeirat pointed out that digital technologies have significantly reduced radiology report turnaround times by over 86%, bringing them down from around 10 days to less than 24 hours, with emergency reports now accessible within minutes.
Furthermore, the digital system allows specialists to oversee dialysis sessions and monitor specialized healthcare services remotely, thereby improving the continuity of care and patient follow-up. Jordan is also pursuing strategic projects to fully digitize the healthcare journey and establish a unified electronic health record for each patient, which will aid in data integration and information exchange among healthcare institutions.
Smeirat underscored the importance of digital technologies in enhancing resource utilization, operational efficiency, and the precision and speed of medical procedures. He reaffirmed the need for ongoing cooperation and knowledge exchange to develop innovative healthcare solutions and improve the quality of life.
