Kanlaon Volcano Erupts in Central Philippines with Three-Kilometer Ash Plume

Manila: A volcano in the central Philippines erupted early Tuesday morning, spewing an ash plume that rose approximately three kilometers into the sky.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported, "A moderately explosive eruption occurred at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano at 2:55 am today," and noted that the eruption lasted five minutes.

Kanlaon Volcano is one of 24 active volcanoes in the Southeast Asian nation. It has experienced several eruptions over the past century, with the most recent occurring in April.
