Abu dhabi: H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has inaugurated the Mohamed bin Zayed City Passenger Train Station in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant milestone with the unveiling of the UAE passenger rail network, set to launch on 30th September 2026. H.H. Sheikh Khaled explored the station's primary facilities, evaluated its information management systems, and assessed operational readiness.
According to Emirates News Agency, the station boasts advanced infrastructure, future plans to boost capacity, and measures to ease passenger flow during peak times. It also incorporates smart solutions and customer service offerings aimed at achieving operational efficiency and service excellence. H.H. Sheikh Khaled emphasized the project as a reflection of the UAE's vision for a cohesive transport network, enhancing connectivity between emirates and supporting sustainable growth through efficient movement of people and goods.
H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes' Affairs and Chairman of Etihad Rail, highlighted the transformative impact of the passenger rail network on the UAE's national transport ecosystem. The network's multiple stations, integrated with other transport modes, are expected to improve connectivity and offer flexible travel options that accommodate community needs and support urban development.
The passenger rail network's launch signifies a new phase in UAE's infrastructure, promoting integrated urban and economic connectivity across the country. An introductory operational phase between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah will begin on 30th June 2026, reducing travel time to 1 hour and 45 minutes, with the complete route opening upon the inauguration of Sharjah Train Station on 30th March 2027.
Fares on the Abu Dhabi-Fujairah route will start at AED55 for Comfort Class and AED120 for Premium Class. The passenger rail fleet includes 13 trains, each with a capacity of 400 passengers. Booking and ticket purchasing will be available through the Etihad Rail mobile app and official website from 23rd June 2026.
The project, delivered in less than five years since the UAE announced its Railway Programme in 2021, exemplifies the nation's ability to execute major infrastructure projects swiftly, translating strategic visions into outcomes and creating new opportunities for individuals, businesses, and investors.
Passenger rail services will be managed by Etihad Rail Passenger Services, a joint venture between Etihad Rail and Keolis, blending international railway operation expertise with national transport management capabilities.
