Khraisheh urges citizens to vote in 2024 parliamentary elections

Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Haditha Khraisheh called on Jordanians on Sunday to vote in the upcoming Lower House of Representatives elections and choose their candidates on programmatic bases. During a dialogue at the Jordan Forum for Business and Professional Women (JFBPW), Khraisheh urged the private sector to encourage its workers to engage in Jordan's political life and increase their participation in the parliamentary elections scheduled on September 10 to achieve the sector's aspirations and serve the public interest. The minister also noted women are a "major and vital" partner in the Kingdom's political modernization process and have "widely" received Royal support in the political modernization system. The minister said the added value of the political system's legislation aims to enhance the presence of women and youth in decision-making process at the parliamentary or partisan levels in the future. The Election Law allocates 41 seats to party lists, representing 30% of the s eats in the 2024 parliament, which will increase to 50% in the next parliament and to 65% in the final stage, he pointed out. In this regard, Khraisheh said the legal and legislative environment supports and encourages the presence of women and youth in the political and party scene. The upcoming parliamentary elections offers an "unprecedented" opportunity for women, adding that the Election Law has allocated 18 seats for women via the quota system and requested parties to allocate at least 2 seats for them among the first 6 seats of their electoral lists, he noted.
