KSrelief signs joint agreement to meet basic food needs of Yemeni neediest groups worth $20 million

Riyadh, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) signed yesterday via video conference, a joint cooperation agreement with the World Food Program (WFP), benefiting 524,849 people, worth $20 million. The agreement was signed by KSrelief Assistant General Supervisor for Operations and Programs, Eng. Ahmed Al-Beez and WFP representative of the program to the GCC, Majeed Yahya.

Eng. Al-Beez explained that under the agreement, 16,908 tons of wheat flour will be purchased and distributed to needy Yemeni citizens to enhance food security, improve livelihoods and resilience, and avoid starvation for people suffering from acute food insecurity in Aden, Al-Dhalea, Al-Hudaydah, Marib, Shabwa, Taiz and Hajjah.

WFP Representative in Yemen Richard Ragan said the Center’s support has contributed to sparing the Yemeni people from the danger of famine, adding that the aid comes at a critical time for the neediest families. He added, “Saudi Arabia has contributed an amount of $1.168 billion in WFP’s response in Yemen since 2015, including $380 million in 2019, which has helped WFP expand its operations to reach 13 million people.”
