Libya calls on the Swedish authorities to take clear measures against the perpetrators of the crime of burning the Holy Quran.

Libya today expressed its astonishment at the continued silence of the Swedish authorities in the face of the repeated provocations of extremists against the Islamic religion, and Libya called on the Swedish authorities to (take clear measures against the perpetrators of the incidents of burning the Noble Qur’an as the holy book of Muslims that were committed in the Swedish capital Stockholm and not to consider insulting the sanctities of Muslims as a behavior that expresses freedom of expression).

This came in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the government of national unity today, Thursday, regarding the incident of burning a copy of the Holy Qur’an in front of the Stockholm Central Mosque in the Swedish capital during a demonstration approved and protected by the police.

The statement of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an by an extremist in front of the Stockholm Central Mosque in Sweden after the blessed Eid al-Adha prayer, stressing that (these actions represent a clear contradiction with international efforts seeking to spread the values of tolerance and moderation and reject extremism and undermine the necessary mutual respect for relations between peoples and nations)

And the statement of the Libyan Foreign Ministry called on the Swedish authorities to respect the feelings of Muslims, especially since (this unacceptable act was committed in conjunction with their blessed days. It requires its action and immediate cessation of these shameful acts).

The statement stressed (that allowing these anti-Islamic acts under the pretext of freedom of expression is unacceptable, and that turning a blind eye to the repetition of such heinous acts means complicity with them), reiterating the call for the need to respect freedom of religion and not to prejudice it in any country.
