Minister of Energy Meets with Mauritanian Minister of Petroleum, Minerals, and Energy


Riyadh, Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz met here today with Islamic Republic of Mauritania Minister of Petroleum, Minerals and Energy Nani Ould Chrougha, to discuss potential cooperation in various energy fields. The meeting occurred during the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) special meeting in Riyadh.

The two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for cooperation between the two countries in the electricity, renewable energy, and clean hydrogen sectors. The goal of this cooperation is to achieve common aims and interests.

The MoU includes encouraging the exchange of expertise and studying partnership opportunities in the renewable energy sector, such as solar, wind, waste-to-energy, and geothermal energy. It aims to develop and improve the electricity system to raise the level of reliability and security.

The MoU also aims to explore potential collaborative projects, exchange of technology related to electricity and renewable energy sectors,
and advance joint efforts in clean hydrogen and clean energy technologies. The ultimate goal is to develop and use cleaner fossil-fuel technologies by adopting the best available technologies and practices to address environmental impacts. This includes the implementation of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, as well as improving energy production and consumption efficiency.
