Ministry Launches Second Phase of Water Management Improvement Project

The Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in collaboration with the German Institute for Standardization, officially launched the second phase of a project aimed at enhancing water management infrastructure in Jordan on Monday. The new phase, with a budget of one million euros and a duration of three years, is designed to increase water supply efficiency and reduce losses. The launch of this phase builds on the results from the first phase, which focused on improving water meter calibration and overall water management efficiency. The ministry stated that the second phase will involve more precise calibration of water meters, with an emphasis on optimizing water usage. The operational planning for the second phase was introduced during a workshop that included representatives from the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, the National Center for Metrology at the Royal Scientific Society, the Water Authority of Jordan, and the water companies Jordan Water - Miyahuna, Aqaba Water, and Yarmouk Water. Techn ical experts outlined the activities and steps for the upcoming phase. Key objectives of the second phase include calibrating water meters at the Metrology Center, testing imported meters for compliance with "Specifications and Standards," and accrediting meter testing laboratories to the international ISO/IEC 17025 standard. The project will feature a training program aimed at enhancing the skills of technical experts, promoting efficient water management practices, and addressing climate change challenges to improve water consumption measurement and reduce losses.
