MONTREAL: The Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has appointed Mohammad Ahmad Salem, Deputy State Representative to the organisation, as Chairperson of the Working Group on the Social Dimension of Sustainability in Civil Aviation. Commenting on this appointment, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority GCAA, stated, "The selection of Mohammad Ahmad Salem is a strong international recognition of the skills and competitiveness of UAE professionals in the aviation sector. This choice also reflects the ongoing understanding and special relationship between the UAE and ICAO and its members." Al Suwaidi continued, 'Achieving a balance between economic growth and social responsibility in aviation is a complementary focus for the strategies of the International Civil Aviation Organisation and one of the pillars of the developmental vision for the aviation sector.' The working group is expected to enhance understanding of sustainability issues a nd ensure that the growth of the sector aligns with social and environmental responsibilities, in line with ICAO's vision for a sustainable future in aviation.
