Mohammed bin Rashid Approves Establishing Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority. This strategic move aims to unify public data, artificial intelligence, and digital government capabilities into a single national ecosystem, as the UAE government prepares for a new phase of AI-powered digital transformation.

According to Emirates News Agency, this initiative reflects the UAE's commitment to developing a more efficient, agile, and proactive government model. The new authority is designed to leverage data and artificial intelligence in decision-making, enhance government services, and improve the quality of life, thereby strengthening the nation's competitiveness and leadership in the digital economy. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasized the importance of a government that is "faster, smarter and always one step ahead," utilizing technology to serve citizens and build a better future.

The newly established authority will consolidate the roles previously held by three separate entities: The Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications; the Digital Government Sector at the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority; and the UAE Data Office. Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, will serve as the Chairman of the Authority.

The Authority's responsibilities include unifying national directions and priorities to support a cohesive digital government system using Agentic AI, proposing national public policies and legislation, and ensuring integration of digital initiatives at both federal and local levels. It will also develop and lead the national AI strategy, aim to increase the digital economy's GDP contribution, and manage government data to ensure its quality and availability across federal entities.

In addition, the Authority will operate AI-powered national data platforms for evidence-based decision-making and oversee the design of proactive, integrated digital services that prioritize individual needs. It will set standards for data and AI management, digital transformation, and government services to ensure federal compliance and build national capabilities in artificial intelligence and digital transformation through research and technical advisory services.

The Authority will also focus on enhancing international coordination and partnerships in artificial intelligence, data, and digital government, as well as supporting cybersecurity efforts and government information security. This work aims to solidify the UAE's position as a global hub for digital innovation and smart government solutions.
