Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, alongside Luis Abinader Corona, President of the Dominican Republic, attended the World Governments Summit's announcement regarding plans to host the WGS-Latin America Regional Dialogue in the Dominican Republic by the end of 2026.
According to Emirates News Agency, Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Governments Summit, and Vctor Bison³ Haza, Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, and President of the Centre for Public Policy Analysis, formalized the organisational aspects of this initiative by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the World Governments Summit 2026, which concluded today.
The MoU outlines that the World Governments Summit regional dialogue will take place outside the UAE, with the 2026 edition scheduled in the Dominican Republic. This initiative aims to drive knowledge dialogues and establish the Republic as a strategic platform linking the Middle East and Latin America.
The regional gathering in the Dominican Republic will have an expanded agenda to deepen integration between Latin America and the Middle East, promote investment from the UAE, and enhance dialogue among senior government authorities, the private sector, decision-makers, investors, international organisations, and global experts.
These efforts aim to foster strategic cooperation between the regions, enhance investment flows from the UAE to Latin America, share best practices in public policy, and address major challenges and opportunities related to development, governance, and the global economy.
The partnership aligns with the shared vision of the two nations and President Luis Abinader Corona's directives to position the Dominican Republic as a regional hub for dialogue, investment, and international cooperation, leveraging its institutional stability, economic openness, and strategic location.
In 2025, the Dominican Republic hosted the first World Governments Summit regional dialogue held outside the UAE, marking a significant milestone as the first Latin American country to host such an initiative, with a strategic agenda aimed at achieving tangible impact in the region.
The World Governments Summit previously signed an MoU with the Centre for Public Policy Analysis (CAPP) in 2025, establishing a framework for institutional cooperation focused on dialogue initiatives, public policy analysis, and international engagement. Under this MoU, the Regional Dialogue in the Dominican Republic will be conducted in coordination with CAPP, enhancing the technical, academic, and public policy components of the event.
