Moroccan King Asserts Sovereign Control Over International Partnerships

Rabat:King Mohammed VI of Morocco emphasized that the nation's international partnerships are a sovereign choice and will remain free from external pressure, threats, or blackmail.

According to Emirates News Agency, the King addressed Parliament during the opening of the new legislative term, highlighting Morocco's status as a reliable international partner. He underscored the country's commitment to fulfilling its obligations and expects reciprocal treatment from its partners.

The King discussed Morocco's approach to migration, acknowledging that while it had achieved results, the existing cooperation model is outdated due to recurring crises. He pointed to significant progress in collaboration with Spain, especially in tackling irregular migration, but noted that some outdated legal frameworks and judicial rulings hinder the repatriation of minors and those falsely claiming asylum, thus benefiting criminal networks.

King Mohammed VI announced plans to present a strategic document to Morocco's partners, aiming for shared development, economic competitiveness, and regional stability. Domestically, he urged ongoing reforms to enhance water, energy, and food security, bolster national capabilities, and strengthen strategic reserves.
