Mountain Fire Threatens Villages as Blaze Escalates in Daegu, Korea

Daegu: A mountain fire in Daegu, Republic of Korea, began spreading toward nearby villages Monday, triggering the second-highest firefighting response.

According to Emirates News Agency, the blaze began on Mount Hamji in the city, approximately 230 kilometers southeast of Seoul. This prompted forest authorities to issue a Level 1 wildfire response, which involved the deployment of 19 helicopters, 38 pieces of equipment, and 165 personnel.

The response level was subsequently elevated to Level 2 on a three-tier scale due to strong winds that intensified the flames. Although no casualties have been reported, nearby residents have been instructed to evacuate to local elementary schools for safety.
