Abu dhabi: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended the ‘Zayed Humanitarian Day’ event, organized by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, in cooperation with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, and supervised by the Presidential Court.
According to Emirates News Agency, the event commemorates the 19th day of Ramadan each year, honoring the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father. The event serves to reinforce social and humanitarian values inspired by Sheikh Zayed’s life and legacy, highlighting his charitable approach that established the UAE as a symbol of generosity worldwide.
The event was attended by notable figures including Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Dr. Omar Habtour Al Derei, Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Saeed Mohammed Al Raqbani, Ali bin Al-Sayyid Abdulrahman Al Hashemi, among others, along with distinguished scholars invited by the UAE President.
The ceremony, held at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, began with Quranic recitations followed by a speech from Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah. He discussed Sheikh Zayed’s moderation and tolerance, which transformed values into institutions and compassion into humanitarian action, making moderation a life model and statecraft example.
Dr. Mustafa Mohammed Abdel Ghani, a guest scholar, spoke about the importance of Zayed Humanitarian Day in reflecting profound human values needed amid global challenges. He emphasized that compassion forms civilization’s foundation, generosity is a universal language, and serving humanity is a high devotion form.
Saeed Mohammed Al Raqbani shared memories of Sheikh Zayed, recalling initiatives like the construction of over fifty dams to support agriculture and preserve marine resources. He also mentioned Sheikh Zayed’s contributions beyond the UAE, such as rebuilding the Ma’rib Dam in Yemen and developing a road in Egypt.
Dr. Omar Habtour Al Derei highlighted Sheikh Zayed’s legacy as a moral guide for the UAE, emphasizing wisdom, security, unity, and resilience as key pillars. He noted that these values have helped the UAE transform crises into development opportunities.
The event concluded with a segment reflecting noble Emirati values, symbolizing the loyalty to Sheikh Zayed’s legacy and the leadership. Attendees prayed for the late Sheikh Zayed’s mercy and continued prosperity for the UAE under its wise leadership.
