‘Nama’ Initiative Launches to Revive Farms and Empower Farmers in Al Ain

Al Ain:The Authority of Social Contribution - Ma'an, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), has introduced the 'Nama' Initiative. This project aims to rejuvenate underutilized farms in the Al Ain region, transforming them into sustainable destinations for agriculture, tourism, and commerce. These efforts focus on authentic agricultural experiences, innovation, and digital empowerment.

According to Wam, the initiative seeks to bolster the agricultural sector's economic contribution and support Abu Dhabi's goals for economic diversification and sustainable development. As the demand for nature-connected experiences and the agri-tourism sector grows, the initiative aims to maximize the potential of farms in Al Ain, enhancing their roles as tourism and agricultural destinations. Selected farm owners will receive specialized training in farm management and the development of agricultural and heritage experiences, along with technical consultations to prepare their farms for visitors and economic growth.

Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri highlighted that the Nama Initiative plays a critical role in implementing economic activity regulations for farms, enabling them to undertake 145 approved economic activities. These efforts aim to improve farm efficiency and economic viability, empowering farm owners to create innovative business models and transform their farms into profitable ventures. The success of the initiative depends on collaborative efforts and the integration of expertise among participating institutions.

Abdullah Humaid Al Ameri, Director General of Ma'an, emphasized that the Nama Initiative is an innovative approach to community and economic development. It combines sustainable empowerment with the revival of agricultural heritage, promoting local community participation in economic activities. This supports Abu Dhabi's vision of a diversified, sustainable economy and enhances the impact of community initiatives.

The initiative represents a significant opportunity to turn Al Ain's farms into vibrant hubs of nature, culture, and economic activity, offering new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, and the community. It embodies a new business model through strategic partnerships, providing technical support, digital empowerment, and fostering agri-tourism. The pilot phase will begin with selected farms, with expansion based on evaluations, performance indicators, and overall experience quality.
