Nepal Flood Death Toll Rises to 170

The death toll from floods and landslides that hit Nepal over the past two days has risen to 170, and several people are still missing. Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said 170 people were killed across the country, while another 42 people were still missing, noting that entire neighborhoods in the capital were flooded over the weekend. Flash flooding was reported in rivers that cross Kathmandu; also reported was extensive damage to highways linking the city to the rest of the country. Nepali Home Ministry Spokesman Rishi Ram Tiwari said that bulldozers were being used to open many highways blocked by rubble, cutting off Kathmandu from the rest of the country, and that more than 3,000 people have been rescued.
