Official Jordanian delegation to discuss on Thursday Kingdom’s report before Human Rights Council in Geneva

Amman: Jordan will participate on Thursday in the discussions of the fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session on the human rights situation in the Kingdom, which will be held before the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The official delegation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will present a report that shows the national achievements regarding the human rights system, which represents Jordan’s tireless efforts to promote these rights and freedoms.

Since the recommendations session held in 2018 in the Human Rights Council on the third UPR report for Jordan, the Kingdom has been keen to follow up and implement the recommendations that were accepted by the Kingdom, a total of 149 recommendations that have contributed to strengthening the human rights system at the level of legislation, recommendations, and practices.

In doing so, it followed a participatory approach based on openness and consultation with stakeholders and relevant institutions on the basis of the guiding principles for writing the repor
t, which were contributed to by various government agencies and national institutions.

Civil society organizations also participated in evaluating and monitoring the implementation of the recommendations.

The report confirms that Jordan is moving in the right direction, based on the constants of the Jordanian state and on Islamic, national, and human principles that aim to raise the status of man, protect his dignity, preserve his existence, and confirm his right to a decent life, freedom, and equality.

It also reflects the progress made by Jordan’s contribution to the humanitarian efforts related to human rights that aim to protect it from all forms of exploitation and oppression and its belief that the protection of the basic rights and freedoms of man is part of the Islamic religion, which no one, in principle, has the right to disable it in whole or in part, or violate it or ignore it.

The developments that Jordan has witnessed have been a catalyst for the continued promotion of the human rights situa
tion that has been committed to by heavenly laws, the charters of nations, and national legislation, despite the challenges, including external ones that Jordan has sought to deal with and overcome their negative effects, most notably the difficult economic conditions and regional political and security challenges, and their negative effects on all vital sectors.
