Oman Establishes AI Special Zone in Muscat

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman has issued Royal Decree No. (50/2026) to establish an Artificial Intelligence Special Zone in the Governorate of Muscat, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.

According to Emirates News Agency, the decree mandates that the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones will appoint the entity responsible for managing, operating, and developing the Artificial Intelligence Special Zone. This will be done in coordination with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

The decree also specifies that projects within the Artificial Intelligence Special Zone will receive incentives, privileges, and exemptions as outlined in Royal Decree No. (38/2025) concerning the Law of Special Economic Zones and Free Zones.

The decree will be published in the Official Gazette and will take effect the day after it is published.
