Princeton:OpenAI has announced the formation of a new independent advisory group hosted at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. The group, named the Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, aims to provide mathematicians with greater influence over the company's math-focused research endeavors.
According to Emirates News Agency, this initiative is designed to act as a bridge to both the mathematical community and the general public, offering mathematicians a platform to contribute to the direction of future research.
The advisory group will focus on evaluating and disseminating emerging results, setting academic and professional standards in mathematical research, and exploring how OpenAI's tools can aid in mathematics research and education.
This announcement follows concerns raised by mathematicians in an open letter titled "A Severe Misalignment of AI in Mathematics," which criticized the use of solved open problems as benchmarks for AI. Furthermore, OpenAI has revealed that a new internal model, which began training on August 28, has successfully solved over 100 world-class mathematical problems.
