Abu dhabi: Over 1,100 athletes from 55 countries are gearing up to compete in the seventh edition of the IMMAF Youth World Championships, which kicks off tomorrow at the Mubadala Arena. This prestigious event, organized by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) and hosted by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, will run until August 23.
According to Emirates News Agency, Abu Dhabi is welcoming the championship for the fifth consecutive year, following a series of successful editions. The Organising Committee has confirmed that all preparations have been completed, with organisational, technical, administrative, and logistical arrangements in place to host the seven-day competition. Mubadala Arena is fully set to welcome the delegations and athletes.
The championship will commence with the Youth D competition for athletes aged 10-11, followed by the Youth C category for athletes aged 12-13 on August 18. The Youth B competition, for those aged 14-15, will be held on August 19 and 20. The final three days will feature the Youth A category, showcasing athletes aged 16-17.
The UAE National Team is participating with a squad of 47 athletes across all four age categories, with 19 athletes competing in the opening day’s Youth D competition. Kerrith Brown, President of the IMMAF, expressed his delight at staging the championship in Abu Dhabi once again. He emphasized the growing number of athletes and participating countries, attributing the success of the event to the ongoing partnership with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation.
Mohammed Bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, highlighted the extensive planning and coordination required to host such a successful event. He assured that the experience gained from previous editions has prepared the teams to handle every aspect of the championship efficiently. He reiterated the confidence in the teams’ expertise and capabilities in delivering another successful edition, further cementing Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a host of major international sporting events.
