Abu dhabi: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced the establishment of over 12,000 air-conditioned rest stations equipped with essential amenities for delivery service workers across the UAE. This initiative is in collaboration with government entities and the private sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, these rest stations will be operational throughout the Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy, which bans outdoor work during peak summer hours, from June 15 to September 15, 2026, between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. This marks the fourth consecutive year of this initiative, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to worker welfare and occupational safety.
MoHRE emphasized the significance of this initiative, especially in the logistics sector where delivery workers operate under unique conditions. The provision of rest stations ensures that workers can find respite when needed, aided by interactive maps on their devices. Furthermore, delivery workers have the flexibility to choose whether to work or pause during restricted hours in coordination with their employers.
The Ministry praised the contributions of participating entities, including the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Abu Dhabi Mobility, and leading delivery platforms such as Talabat, Deliveroo, and Careem. Numerous retail and hospitality businesses have also supported the initiative.
This initiative is part of a broader system of procedures, awareness programs, and inspections aimed at enhancing compliance with occupational health and safety standards. It seeks to prevent risks from sun exposure, ensuring the safety and well-being of workers, while boosting their productivity and quality of life.
