Abu Dhabi: Executive Director of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Secretariat, Julian Bianco, has brought attention to the development of new drug smuggling patterns within Pacific Island nations, such as the exchange of drugs for logistical services.
According to Emirates News Agency, Bianco discussed these emerging patterns during the Global Police Summit, highlighting the challenges they pose to security agencies. He emphasized the crucial need for stronger regional cooperation and intelligence sharing to tackle the rising threat of transnational drug trafficking across the 22 member Pacific Island nations.
Bianco pointed out the increased maritime drug transit towards Australia and New Zealand as a significant concern, stressing that addressing this issue requires collaborative efforts among the nations involved. The focus on enhancing security measures and intelligence sharing aims to effectively counteract the evolving methods employed by drug smugglers in the region.
