Sharm el-sheikh: The President of the European Council, Ant³nio Costa, will attend the ‘Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace’ on Monday 13 October on behalf of the European Union, at the invitation of the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
According to Emirates News Agency, Ant³nio Costa expressed optimism about the summit, describing it as a significant step towards peace. He highlighted the international community’s commitment to a future where Palestinians and Israelis coexist peacefully. Costa emphasized the hope for the release of hostages, a ceasefire, and humanitarian access to Gaza. He reiterated the commitment to a just peace and a future based on the two-state solution, with plans to rebuild Gaza and address past conflicts.
The European Union aims to support transitional governance, recovery, and reconstruction to ensure a successful outcome, including continued support for the Palestinian Authority. These efforts are part of a broader strategy for long-term stability, focused on the two-state solution, with Israel and a State of Palestine coexisting peacefully.
The European Union and its member states are key donors of humanitarian aid, particularly to the Palestinian people, with the aim to save lives and preserve human dignity. Last September, President Costa represented the EU at the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, organized by France and Saudi Arabia during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
