Qatar Highlights Syria’s Stability as Integral to Arab and Regional Security

New york: The State of Qatar, representing the Arab Group at the United Nations, emphasized that Syria's security and stability are crucial components of both Arab and regional security. It underscored that maintaining Syria's unity and national institutions is essential to preventing regional destabilization, combating terrorism, and thwarting the resurgence of terrorist groups.

According to Emirates News Agency, the statement was delivered by the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, during the UN Security Council's monthly briefing on the Situation in the Middle East and the political and humanitarian tracks for the Syrian Arab Republic. Sheikha Alya highlighted that Syria is experiencing a critical phase, with its people facing challenges related to security, humanitarian, economic, and developmental issues that impact living conditions and strain state institutions. She emphasized the need for international support to aid national efforts in overcoming these challenges and facilitating recovery and reconstruction, which would contribute positively to Syria's stability and that of the broader region.

Sheikha Alya conveyed that the Arab Group stresses the significance of fostering national unity under the state's framework, building trust, enhancing security and stability, promoting development, and advancing a comprehensive Syrian-led political process. The process should include broad participation from all Syrian people components to safeguard citizens' rights and bolster national reconciliation, social peace, and transitional justice.

Sheikha Alya also noted the Arab Group's approval of steps taken by the Syrian government towards these objectives, including its cooperation with the international community and the UN system. She highlighted the importance of the UN's role in supporting national efforts in these areas.

Furthermore, Sheikha Alya reiterated the Arab Group's dedication to Syria's national and regional integrity, sovereignty, and independence, opposing any breaches of its territorial integrity or sovereignty. The Group denounces external interference in Syrian affairs, attempts to create illegal realities on the ground, or efforts towards partition or fragmentation. It expressed grave concern over acts of violence intended to destabilize security and stability within Syria.
