QCA Launches Second Edition of Chess in Schools Project


Doha: The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) on Sunday launched the second edition of the Chess in Schools project, within the framework of the partnership between the QCA and the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Several public and private schools take part in the project. A chess and education course is held in the meeting hall of the Chess Training Center and includes axes on the basic principles of the rules of the game as well as the most important advantages of practicing chess in the school stages and methods of teaching the game.

President of the QCA Mohammed Al Mudahka, in a statement to Qatar News Agency , said that the tournament is one of the basic pillars for developing and spreading the game of chess in schools and creating a broad base of female teachers capable of training, managing and refereeing the games various activities.

He further explained that school championships are likely to start in April and May, noting that the QCA’s current strategy
is to organize age group championships on an ongoing basis to build a chess generation in Qatar and hone the talents produced by these championships, which have become part of the international federation’s competition calendar.

The QCA President thanked the participants in the course, noting their keenness to make the executive program to include chess in school curricula a success.
