Fujairah: Qidfa Village in the Emirate of Fujairah has been awarded an international recognition certificate under the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) initiative. This accolade is part of the FAO Museum and Network (FAO MuNe), acknowledging the village's efforts in preserving natural heritage, biodiversity, and promoting rural development.
According to Emirates News Agency, this recognition highlights the UAE's commitment to safeguarding food traditions and linking food culture with education, hospitality, and tourism. The initiative also appreciates the country's focus on innovative scientific and digital solutions for rural development.
H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, emphasized that this acknowledgment is a testament to the UAE's sustained efforts and prudent policies directed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable development. He praised the national institutions for their coordinated efforts in executing development strategies that reflect the UAE's vision of balanced growth.
Sheikh Hamad also highlighted the importance placed by the Emirate of Fujairah on preserving heritage villages and the natural environment, which strengthens national identity and balances economic and social development while conserving natural resources for future generations.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stated that Qidfa Village's recognition by FAO MuNe reflects the UAE's dedication to sustainable agricultural systems and biodiversity protection. She noted that this achievement is in line with the National Food Security Strategy, positioning UAE villages as models of environmental and economic sustainability.
Mohamed Al Kaabi, Secretary-General of the Emirates Council for Balanced Development, attributed this success to the integrated national efforts targeting the development of rural areas. He mentioned that the Council is implementing initiatives to enhance quality of life, support local activities, and transform villages into cultural and tourism hubs while maintaining their heritage.
