Under its annual medical convoys program, the representation mission of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Turkiye has implemented a medical convoy for displaced Syrians in Idlib, northern Syria. The purpose of the project was to reduce mortality and morbidity rates resulting from the lack of specialized healthcare services, as well as to improve the quality of life for patients in need of specialized surgical interventions. To that end, a volunteering medical delegation from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Sidra Medicine was deployed from Qatar to perform examinations and surgeries led by Consultant Urologist Dr. Abdullah Al Nuaimi. With a capacity-building program for local surgeons and medical equipment provided for hospitals, the number of direct beneficiaries increased to 435 patients, in addition to 2,175 indirect beneficiaries. The specialized medical convoys scheme in Syria is part of the emergency and life-saving medical response program, especially after the devastating earthquake in southe rn Turkey and northern Syria in February 2023.
