Republic of Korea Welcomes Announcement of Truce in Yemen

Seoul, The Republic of Korean has welcomed the announcement by the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to commence a truce and halt all forms of military operations in Yemen.

In a statement carried by Yonhap News Agency today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea said: the Korean government welcomes the agreement on a two-month truce in Yemen reached on the back of the mediation by the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen and the efforts of the countries concerned, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Oman, and hopes that all parties will faithfully implement the agreement, leading to a permanent peace in Yemen.

The ministry added that the Korean government reaffirms its position that it supports the efforts of the international community, including the United Nations, to establish peace and stability in Yemen and will provide USD 20 million in humanitarian assistance this year in response to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
