Saudi FM: GCC-ASEAN summit to convene biennially

RIYADH, – Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Friday that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) would convene on a rotating basis every two years.

Bin Farhan made the remark during a joint press conference with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, saying that both blocs share commonalities and great cooperative opportunities, and looking forward to further progress in bilateral relations.

He underlined that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip should be reached in order to put an end to the vicious circle of violence and to ensure humanitarian aid for affected Palestinians.

On her part, the Indonesian foreign minister said that this gathering would usher in a fresh phase of closer bonds between the ASEAN and the GCC, thus bringing benefits to their peoples.

She also voiced concern over mounting violence in Gaza, restating her bloc’s support for a Gaza ceasefire and the bi-state solution.
