Sharjah: The Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) is actively enhancing the educational infrastructure across the emirate through numerous projects aimed at building new schools and nurseries, upgrading academic and sports facilities, and implementing maintenance programs to foster improved learning environments. These efforts are coordinated with the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) to ensure adherence to educational standards, licensing, and operational requirements, with a focus on safety and early childhood provision.
According to Emirates News Agency, the SDPW successfully completed the construction of Muhadhab School in just 60 days, transforming a 30,000-square-metre area into a comprehensive educational complex that accommodates 400 students. The school includes facilities for kindergarten and nursery, catering to 150 children, and a building for grades one to four, accommodating 250 students. It features 16 classrooms, libraries, science and computer laboratories, medical facilities, multi-purpose play areas, and a 117-seat theatre.
Further expansions include the Early Childhood Centre in Al Sayouh, which added four classrooms over 770 square metres for 96 children, and the Early Childhood Centre in Al Rahmaniya, which added six classrooms over 1,000 square metres for 150 children. Maintenance work at Al Qulaia Nursery encompassed flooring, doors, ceilings, car park canopies, painting, air conditioning, and electrical work. Additionally, four government nurseries are under construction in various areas including Al Abar and Al Mawrada.
SDPW also completed maintenance at the Pakistani Islamic School in Al Ghubaiba, covering 8,000 square metres of buildings and facilities. This involved concrete repairs, roof waterproofing, and the refurbishment of toilets and ceilings, among other improvements. The construction of Victoria International School in Al Thumama is 73 percent complete, with planned facilities including administration buildings, theatres, and sports halls. Meanwhile, Al Bustan Nursery's maintenance works are 84 percent complete.
In Al Madam, projects involve the construction of Tawila Nursery and the expansion of Khalifa Al Hamza American School, with the first phase already completed. This expansion includes a 145-square-metre addition with classroom facilities and a 365-square-metre girls' section. Dining facilities are under construction and are scheduled for handover in November.
Kalba witnessed the completion of the second phase of Victoria School, which added laboratories, classrooms, and a new sports complex. Al Ghail Nursery and Khor Kalba Nursery are also underway, providing facilities for children from infancy to four years. In Khorfakkan, projects like Al Lulu'iya Nursery and the University Nursery have been completed, with facilities including administrative offices and play areas.
Finally, in Dibba Al Hisn, improvements are ongoing for the North District Nursery, while maintenance at Dibba Al Hisn Nursery has been completed. These initiatives are part of Sharjah's broader efforts to increase educational capacity and provide modern, safe facilities across the emirate.
