Sharjah Hosts First UAE-Azerbaijan Business Council Meeting


Sharjah: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) hosted the inaugural meeting of the UAE-Azerbaijan Business Council, attended by representatives from the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Azerbaijan’s Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA). The UAE delegation was led by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Vice Chairman of the Federation and Chairman of SCCI, while Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of KOBIA, led the Azerbaijani side.



According to Emirates News Agency, discussions centered on enhancing trade and investment cooperation, focusing on sectors such as transportation, energy, construction, textiles, and financial services, among others. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais emphasized the robust and evolving bilateral relations between the UAE and Azerbaijan, supported by various cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding. He highlighted the mutual commitment to advancing trade and economic cooperation, with a focus on expanding private-sector collaboration.



Al Owais noted the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2025 between the UAE Chambers Federation and KOBIA, which aims to strengthen bilateral business cooperation and activate the joint Business Council. Orkhan Mammadov pointed out the diverse sectors represented by the Azerbaijani delegation, including tourism, agriculture, and technology, underscoring the potential for collaboration.



Mammadov stressed the importance of the UAE-Azerbaijan Business Council in facilitating direct communication between business entities and encouraged Emirati companies to explore investment opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, and food production. He assured that KOBIA is ready to support Emirati investors interested in the Azerbaijani market.



The meeting also reviewed the Council’s operational framework and future plans aimed at supporting the strategic priorities of both business communities.
