SHARJAH: Sharjah and the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province of the Republic of Korea have recently joined forces to engage in deeper collaboration across key sectors of tourism, technology and cultural exchange.
Officiated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah (DGR), and Oh Young-hun, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, this partnership symbolises a significant new chapter in the Sharjah-Korea relationship.

The MoU welcomes a future between the two regions harnessing collaborative initiatives across diverse fields. In the realm of tourism, both Sharjah and Jeju are renowned, and share common ground regarding their wellness offerings where they will exchange best practices and promote joint marketing initiatives to attract visitors seeking holistic experiences. Technology and emerging industries present another exciting avenue for partnership as Sharjah, a hub for innovation, and Jeju, with its focus on smart city development, will share expertise in areas like renewable energy, exchanging cutting-edge solutions for sustainable living.
Culturally, the agreement paves the way for enriching exchanges and educational institutions can leverage this opportunity to establish possible student exchange programmes and joint research initiatives, while building mutual understanding
and appreciation for each other’s heritage. The MoU also encourages the exchange of information and publications, enriching libraries and cultural centres with diverse perspectives from the two locations. Additionally, joint exhibitions, festivals, and seminars could provide platforms for communities to connect and celebrate their unique cultural expressions.
At the economic level, the MoU opens doors to enhanced trade relations, and by facilitating trade missions, business forums, and knowledge-sharing events, both regions can explore new business opportunities and investments, forging mutually beneficial partnerships.
