Sharjah:The Sharjah Press Club (SPC), part of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, organized a training workshop at the House of Wisdom in collaboration with Sky News Arabia. The initiative aimed to enhance journalists' skills in fact-checking, storytelling, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Emirates News Agency, the workshop was titled 'Modern Journalism Fact-Checking, Storytelling and Artificial Intelligence' and was designed for SPC members and journalists. It focused on introducing modern journalism practices and tools, covering the key stages of content preparation, including news monitoring, information verification, storytelling techniques, and AI application in journalism.
Tariq Saeed Allay, Director-General of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, emphasized the importance of investing in media professionals to keep up with industry changes. He highlighted the need for journalists to possess advanced skills to responsibly handle information flow and utilize modern technologies.
The programme addressed various aspects such as identifying reliable sources, distinguishing verified information from misinformation, and techniques for balancing reporting speed with accuracy. Additionally, it included training on transforming information into journalistic stories by developing headlines and constructing clear narratives.
Participants explored AI applications in journalism, like researching and organizing information, and were introduced to newsroom AI tools. Emphasis was placed on verifying AI outputs while maintaining journalistic standards.
The workshop concluded with practical exercises, including an activity called 'From News to Story', which integrated information gathering, verification, and editorial decision-making. This initiative is part of SPC's ongoing efforts to support media professionals' development and adapt to evolving media sector demands.
