Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research (SCHESR), presided over the first meeting of the SCHESR at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre. The meeting was attended by distinguished members of the Sharjah leadership, including H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, along with several university presidents and directors.
According to Emirates News Agency, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan underscored the pivotal role of universities in societal advancement. He emphasized the establishment of the SCHESR to support the emirate's universities and academies in their educational endeavors, a journey that began in 1997 with the founding of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah. The Council aims to deliver the highest quality education through modern curricula.
During the meeting, His Highness addressed various issues impacting universities and academic institutions. He highlighted the dual nature of science, noting its potential to both create and cause harm. He stressed the importance of setting up academic institutions correctly from their inception, drawing on the Emirate of Sharjah's historical experience in establishing universities with the guidance of skilled professionals.
His Highness also discussed the rigorous educational standards upheld by each university, developed in collaboration with top universities worldwide. He noted the presence of boards of trustees composed of experts who oversee university operations and decision-making processes. Additionally, he emphasized the vital role of university professors in fulfilling their teaching and research responsibilities and the need for effective communication of scientific material to students.
The Ruler of Sharjah reiterated his commitment to prioritizing education and knowledge, stressing its universal value beyond borders, race, appearance, or language. He affirmed the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research's role in providing resources and expertise to support educational institutions without interfering in their operations.
The meeting also featured a speech by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in the Council and pledging to uphold the high standards of Sharjah's educational institutions.
Legal Advisor Dr. Mansour Mohammed Bin Nassar read the legal legislation related to the establishment and organization of the SCHESR, including Emiri Decrees No. (14) and No. (15) of 2025 and Administrative Resolution No. (2) of 2025.
