Dubai: The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship - Round 1 No Gi commenced today at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex (NAS) in Dubai, featuring competitions in the U12, U14, and U16 categories. The event witnessed strong performances, highlighting the growing interest and development of jiu-jitsu among young athletes in the UAE.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club emerged as the leader on the first day, with Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club securing second place and Palms Sports - Team 777 taking third. The high level of competition demonstrated the success of club programmes and academies in nurturing young talent, with family support playing a crucial part in the athletes' growth.
The event was attended by various officials and dignitaries who participated in the medal ceremonies, including Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and several board members and representatives from the federation and partnering organizations.
Mohamed Hussain Al Marzooqi emphasized that the inclusion of the No Gi category underscores the Federation's dedication to providing varied competitive platforms and enhancing athletes' skills. He highlighted the importance of investing in youth categories to prepare them for regional and international competitions.
Al Marzooqi noted that No Gi competitions present unique challenges by focusing on speed, flexibility, and tactical awareness, crucial for preparing athletes for international events. He remarked that the championship, coinciding with the Year of the Family, underscores the role of sports in reinforcing family bonds and instilling values like commitment and perseverance.
Ibrahim Mohammed Mesbahi, whose son Zayed is competing in the U12 category (42kg) from ADMA Academy, expressed satisfaction with Zayed's performance, emphasizing the sport's benefits in building self-confidence and determination.
The championship will continue tomorrow, featuring competitions in the U18, Adults, and Masters categories, with numerous clubs and academies participating. The event is anticipated to further promote sportsmanship and excellence, reinforcing jiu-jitsu's role in uniting families through shared ambitions and achievements.
