Dubai: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has reviewed the progress on the Jumeirah Beach 1 development project. This initiative by Dubai Municipality aims to enhance public beach infrastructure and elevate waterfront experiences across the emirate.
According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, and Mattar Al Tayer during his visit. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, briefed him on the latest developments, revealing that the project has reached a completion rate of over 95 percent.
The redevelopment spans 1,400 metres and involves a comprehensive upgrade of the beach's design, facilities, and infrastructure. It is aimed at enhancing quality of life, supporting wellbeing, and reinforcing Dubai's position as a leading global destination for beach tourism. Set to reopen to the public in early February, the project will offer a fully integrated coastal destination with modern recreational and sports facilities, family-friendly amenities, and dedicated paths for pedestrians, cyclists, and joggers.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized Dubai's commitment to setting new benchmarks in urban development through sustainable planning and people-centred design. He stated that developing a smart, future-ready city with advanced infrastructure and world-class public spaces is part of Dubai's vision.
The project supports the objectives of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 by enhancing open public spaces, promoting healthy living, and strengthening community wellbeing. It aligns with the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, which prioritizes coastal area development, improved accessibility, and efficient mobility networks to support sustainable urban growth.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita highlighted the project's reflection of Dubai Municipality's commitment to implementing the leadership's directives. The development enhances coastal infrastructure readiness, responds to population and tourism growth, and delivers a distinctive experience for residents and visitors.
Upgraded service and health facilities such as restrooms, showers, and changing rooms have been incorporated, ensuring comfort, accessibility, and privacy. Dedicated areas for recreation and seasonal events, along with parking facilities and electric vehicle charging stations, are also included.
The project integrates advanced technologies like wireless internet connectivity, electronic information displays, smart lockers, and AI-enabled rescue systems. Climate-resilience measures are a core component, with engineering works including beach level elevation and sand replenishment to protect against rising sea levels.
Additionally, the project introduces over 15 investment opportunities in beach-related activities, retail, dining, and services, supporting economic growth and strengthening Dubai's beach tourism ecosystem.
The Jumeirah Beach 1 development project reflects Dubai Municipality's vision to transform public beaches into integrated urban destinations, enhancing wellbeing, supporting community cohesion, and contributing to Dubai's reputation as a top city to live, work, and visit.
