Syria discusses water reality with Egypt, Pakistan and Iraq

Dushanbe, Minister of Water Resources Dr. Tammam Raad has discussed with heads of Egyptian, Pakistani and Iraqi delegations the water reality.

The came on the sidelines of the Second High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028, held in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.

Minister Raad discussed with Minister of Water Resources in Egypt Mohamed Abdel-Aty the reality of international waters in the two countries and the necessary financing and technical mechanisms to confront water scarcity in light of the procedures of the upstream countries that lead to harming national water security.

Minister Raad and Deputy Minister of Water Resources of Pakistan Kazim Niaz reviewed water problems, as they discussed the possibility of cooperation in the field of water research and communication between experts in the two ministries and the BCRWA Research Center in Pakistan.

The two sides exchanged evaluation of experiences on water conservation in both countries and cooperation in field of water policy.

Minister Raad also discussed with head of the Iraqi delegation, Engineer Hatem Hamid, the current reality of water resources in light of the Turkish measures that reduce water supplies on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in addition to the harsh water conditions facing the two countries as a result of drought.
