Syrian project for preserving and protecting culture heritage wins ICCROM-Sharjah Award

Sharjah/ UAE, The “Cool Art Palmyra “project was awarded the Special Excellence( ICCROM Sharjah) for good practices in preserving and protecting cultural heritage in the Arab Region for 2020,2022, during a ceremony held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

The Cool Art Palmyra included an integrated project in the Temple of Baal Shamin in Palmyra.

The project won the Special Excellence Award, along with three other projects, namely Hisham Palace project in Jericho, Qarara village project in Gaza, and the digital documentation project of historical documents in Jerusalem.

Likewise, the rehabilitation project of the souk al-Saqtiyeh in Aleppo was awarded, whose prize was awarded to Dr. Ali Ismail, winner of the Grand Prize for the category of Buildings and Archaeological Sites during the last round of the Prize (ICCROM Sharjah), which was held two years ago.

On the sidelines of the awards ceremony, Syrian Ambassador to the UAE Dr. Ghassan Abbas, met Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad al-Qasimi, Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, and sponsor of the event, and UAE Minister of Culture Noura al-Kaabi ,as well as representatives of heritage and cultural organizations where the importance of supporting Syrian heritage, which is a treasure for all humanity, was highlighted.
