Tadweer Group Achieves Major Milestones at AlBihouth Waste-to-Energy Facility

Abu Dhabi:Tadweer Group has announced significant progress in the construction of its AlBihouth Waste-to-Energy Facility, with the project now 90% complete. The development has successfully completed pressure tests on its two boilers and achieved six million working hours without a lost time injury, underscoring the project's commitment to safety and quality.

According to Wam, the AlBihouth facility is poised to become one of the most advanced waste-to-energy plants globally. It aims to recover energy from waste, significantly reducing the reliance on landfills. Once operational, the facility is expected to process around half of Abu Dhabi's municipal household waste, bolstering the emirate's sustainable waste management infrastructure and supporting its goal to divert 80% of waste from landfills by 2031.

The facility's stakeholders include Tadweer Group, Marubeni Corporation from Japan, Kanadevia Inova from Switzerland, and the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN). The project combines international expertise in waste-to-energy technologies and sustainable resource management, contributing to Abu Dhabi's circular economy ambitions.

The construction progress has been marked by a strong focus on workforce safety, with the achievement of six million working hours without a lost time injury reflecting effective project management. A ceremony celebrating these milestones was attended by Arthur Mattli, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE, Ken Okaniwa, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE, as well as project stakeholders and shareholders.

Etienne Petit, CEO of Tadweer Group, emphasized the responsibility of delivering dependable infrastructure for Abu Dhabi while ensuring workforce safety. Roni Araiji from Kanadevia Inova highlighted the engineering milestone of successful boiler pressure tests, which demonstrate the rigorous quality standards of the project. Stefan Kipp, CEO of the AlBihouth Facility, noted the establishment of a strong safety culture as construction progresses.

Once operational, the facility is expected to treat approximately 900,000 tonnes of waste and generate electricity sufficient to power about 52,000 homes, significantly enhancing Abu Dhabi's waste management capabilities and contributing to the productive use of non-recyclable waste.
