Tadweer Group Reaches Construction Milestones at AlBihouth Waste-to-Energy Facility

Abu Dhabi:Tadweer Group has announced significant milestones in the construction of the AlBihouth Waste-to-Energy Facility, which has now reached 90% completion. The group successfully conducted pressure tests on the facility's two boilers and achieved six million working hours without a lost time injury, underscoring the project's construction quality and commitment to safety.

According to Wam, the AlBihouth facility is being developed as one of the world's most advanced waste-to-energy plants. It aims to recover energy from waste and reduce reliance on landfills, treating approximately half of Abu Dhabi's municipal household waste. The project aligns with Abu Dhabi's goal to divert 80% of its waste from landfills by 2031.

The facility's shareholders include Tadweer Group, Japan's Marubeni Corporation, Switzerland-based Kanadevia Inova, and the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN). The construction progress has been bolstered by a strong focus on workforce safety, reflecting a commitment to safe working practices.

The project's milestones were celebrated at a ceremony attended by key figures such as Arthur Mattli, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE, and Ken Okaniwa, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE. Attendees were able to view the construction progress firsthand.

Etienne Petit, CEO of Tadweer Group, emphasized the responsibility of delivering reliable infrastructure for Abu Dhabi's future, while Roni Araiji of Kanadevia Inova highlighted the importance of the successful boiler pressure tests. Stefan Kipp, CEO of the AlBihouth Waste-to-Energy Facility, praised the strong safety culture established across the project.

Once operational, the facility is expected to process approximately 900,000 tonnes of waste and generate enough electricity to power about 52,000 homes, enhancing Abu Dhabi's waste management infrastructure and contributing to its circular economy goals.
