The Book Plateau: A Timeless Treasure in Al-Baha Region

The Book Plateau in Baljurashi, nestled in the heart of Saudi Arabia's Al-Baha region, has become a captivating tourist destination, blending the allure of nature and the enduring legacy of history. The plateau is located at the confluence of two streams at the foot of the valley, and resembles an open book due to the enigmatic inscriptions that adorn its surface. These carvings, thought to be over 14 centuries old, feature early Islamic writings without diacritical marks, some of which bear the names of the Prophet's companions and followers. Al-Baha Heritage Authority Director General Abdulrahman Al-Ghamdi said that the site was included in the National Antiquities Register after a comprehensive survey in 2005.
