The continuation of the conference to support a comprehensive process of national reconciliation and transitional justice


The work of the conference to support a comprehensive process for national reconciliation and transitional justice continued today, Sunday, in Tripoli, headed by the representative of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, with the participation of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and a number of international, local and legal experts and representatives of the families of the victims.

According to the Information and Communication Office of the Libyan Presidential Council, the first session today discussed best practices regarding amnesty, accountability, and rebuilding the rule of law through transitional justice, presenting the Secretary-General’s guidance memorandum on justice, amnesty, special punishments, and conditions, presenting the Libyan experience in the field of amnesty, and an overview of previous laws.

He added that the second session of the working group discussion within the activities of the second day of the conference was devoted to formulating recommendations regarding
strengthening accountability and the role of amnesty in the process of transitional justice and reconciliation in Libya.
