New York: Russia’s representative to the UN Security Council expressed his country’s support in principle for supporting the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, to get out of the crisis and avoid excessive interference in Libya.
He said in his speech before the Security Council session on Libya on Thursday that the only way out in Libya is to hold elections, calling on all parties to participate in them.
The Russian delegate stressed that the gradual withdrawal of foreign security and military forces from Libya is a must, noting that Libya has an impact on security and stability in North Africa.
The Russian delegate continued that without a single government that brings together all parties from all regions, there will be no progress, pointing to external interference in dictating agendas to the Libyan parties, which he said often leads to failure.
