Typhoon Trami wanes, impact lingers on

HAINAN: Strong winds and heavy rains still batter China's southernmost island province of Hainan, although Typhoon Trami has waned into a tropical depression after it made landfall in Vietnam on Sunday morning. According to China Global Television Network (CGTN), the provincial meteorological bureau has indicated that torrential rains are expected to impact most areas of Hainan from Monday through Wednesday evening due to the influence of Typhoon Trami and cold air. Experts asked the public to be vigilant of secondary disasters caused by heavy rains as they will be prolonged and result in considerable cumulative precipitation. On Monday morning, the provincial meteorological bureau issued a yellow alert for heavy rains, while Sanya's local meteorological bureau upgraded the warning to red. China has a four-tier, colour-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Source: Emirates News Agency
