U.S. Embassy denies issuing any statement regarding the HoR’s decision to terminate the term of the executive authority.

Tripoli: The U.S. Embassy in Libya denied the authenticity of the statement attributed to it regarding the House of Representatives' decision (HoR) to end the term of the executive authority and considered it a forged document. 'This forged memo, presented as a statement from the U.S. Embassy to Libya, is a fake document. We reject the fraudulent use of U.S. Embassy to Libya letterhead to disseminate fake information and attempt to mislead the Libyan public,' the Embassy said in a tweet. The Embassy said that the letterhead appears to have been taken from a U.S. Embassy to Libya condolence message, which is particularly reprehensible. 'The U.S. position on the Libyan political process has not changed. The United States continues to fully support UN facilitation of an inclusive political process, based on dialogue and compromise among all Libyan parties and based on the principles of the Libyan Political Agreement and the Geneva process,' the Embassy stressed. The memorandum, which the U.S. Embassy describ ed as forged, claimed that Ambassador (Norland) considered the HoR's decision to terminate the term of the executive authority and withdraw recognition of the Government of National Unity as a legitimate government to be an illegitimate decision, does not reflect the will of the Libyan people, works to fuel internal conflict, and bears the hallmarks of a coup. The memorandum claimed that the US Embassy called for imposing international sanctions on Speaker of the HoR, Ageela Saleh, including freezing his assets abroad. Source: Libyan News Agency
